Vijay Sethupathi Felt ‘Shattered’ After Zoya Akhtar-Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy Was Sent To Oscars Instead Of Super Deluxe; Actor Says, ‘Something Happened In Between’

Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is making a place for himself in the Bollywood industry. Having established himself as a credible actor with his versatile performance, he is all set to share the screen with Katrina Kaif, in their upcoming Sriram Raghavan directorial Merry Christmas. He recently opened up about the disappointment he felt when his movie Super Deluxe, where he essayed the role of a transgender woman, wasn’t sent as India’s official selection for the Oscars despite receiving recognition and many national, international awards.
While promoting his upcoming project, during an event held by Bollywood Hungama, Sethupathi recalled how shattered he felt when Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, was sent for the Oscars instead of his film Super Deluxe. Expressing how heartbreaking it was for the entire team of the Thiagarajan Kumararaja directorial, he revealed that he felt shattered. Blaming it on the politics, the 45-year-old actor said, “I was shattered, but it’s politics. We know that something happened. It’s not because I was in that film. Even if I were not in that film, I would’ve wanted that film to go there. Something happened in between and I don’t want to talk about that. Talking about the Tamil-language movie, the 2019 film starred Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles. The movie focuses on four different stories that occur on the same day in the lives of four different individuals. Co-written, co-produced, and directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the critically acclaimed film was loved by critics and audiences.
On the work front, last seen as an antagonist in Jawan, Vijay Sethupathi is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Merry Christmas alongside Katrina Kaif. the movie is slated to release on January 12, 2024.
